Make a QR code for your Wi-Fi

Type your network name and password and get a code guests scan to join, without spelling anything out. It is made in your browser, so the password never leaves your device.

What the code holds

Shown as you type so you can check it. It stays on this device.

Your code appears here as you type.

Never expires. The code holds what you typed. There is no short link in it, so there is nothing to switch off, redirect or track.

What a guest sees when they scan it

On an iPhone, pointing the Camera app at the code shows the network's name with a button to join it. Most Android phones do the same from the camera or from Google Lens. Either way the password is filled in for them and they are online in a tap.

The network name and password have to match exactly, capitals and spaces included. The password field shows what you type so you can check it before you print.

Printing it for a guest room, office or café

Print it at least a few centimetres wide, dark on a light background, and put the network name beside it in writing for anyone whose phone does not scan codes. A frame by the door or a card on the table works better than a code taped where people have to lean in.

Hidden networks

If your router does not broadcast the network name, tick Hidden network. The code then tells the phone to look for it anyway, which it cannot do from a name that never appears in the list.

The password is in the code

A Wi-Fi code is not encrypted: any QR reader shows the password to whoever scans it, and a photo of the code is as good as the code. That is fine for a guest network or a café, but think twice before printing your main home network's code where strangers pass. Many routers can run a separate guest network for exactly this.

FAQ

Which security option do I pick?

WPA2 or WPA3 for almost every network today. Choose WEP only for a very old router that still uses it, and None for an open network with no password.

Does the code stop working if I change the password?

Yes. The old password is printed into the code, so make a new code whenever you change it. Nothing else about the code expires.

Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?

No. The code is drawn in your browser, and the password never leaves your device.
