Compress a video for Discord
Make a clip small enough to send on Discord without Nitro. The page aims just under the free limit and shows what the video will look like before it starts.
Discord's limit
Discord raised the free upload limit from 10 MB to 20 MB per file in August 2026 (checked in September 2026). On the phone apps the size is measured before Discord's own compression, so a video that fits on a computer counts the same on a phone. Nitro raises the limit, but you do not need it for a clip that fits.
A 20 MB target keeps a short clip sharp. Longer videos come down in resolution to fit, and the estimate says so before you start. Trimming the clip with the handles under the player keeps more detail.
FAQ
Is my video uploaded?
No. It is read, converted and saved inside your browser, using your device's own video encoder. Nothing about it, not even its name, is sent anywhere.
Why does it aim a little under 20 MB?
It counts a megabyte as a million bytes, the smaller of the two readings, and leaves room for the file's own overhead, so the result fits however the limit is counted.
My clip is too long to look good at 20 MB. What now?
Trim it to the part that matters with the handles under the player, or choose a larger size and share it as a link from a cloud drive instead. The estimate turns red when a video will look rough.
