Method 1: add the pass to Apple Wallet
Event tickets, boarding passes and many store passes come with an Add to Apple Wallet button in the email, app or website that issued them. Tap it on your iPhone and Apple says the pass is added to Wallet on your paired Apple Watch as well. At the gate or door, open Wallet on the watch, choose the pass and hold the display up to the scanner.
This is the best route when it exists, because the issuer controls the pass and can update it. It only works when the issuer offers a Wallet pass, which many do not.
Method 2: sync a screenshot of the QR code
Any QR code you can see on your iPhone can travel to the watch as a picture. This works whatever the code contains, including long links and ticket codes that no other route accepts.
- Take a screenshot of the QR code on your iPhone, or save the image from the email or website.
- In Photos, add it to an album. A dedicated album such as "Watch codes" keeps it apart from your other pictures.
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, go to Photos > Sync Album, and choose that album.
- When you need the code, open Photos on the watch, tap the picture, and turn the Digital Crown to zoom until the QR code fills the screen.
The drawback is speed: finding a photo and zooming takes a few seconds at a turnstile. A screenshot also keeps whatever was around the code, so crop it to the code first for a larger, cleaner image.
Method 3: keep a short code in Wrist Codes
Wrist Codes stores codes you add on your iPhone and shows them on the watch in its app, as a complication on the watch face, or as a Smart Stack widget. On iPhone, scan the QR code with the camera or type what it contains, name it, and it syncs to the watch.
Wrist Codes draws the QR code itself instead of storing a picture, so it stays sharp at any size. Its QR support is limited to short contents: up to 32 characters of plain text, fewer with accented letters or emoji. That covers membership numbers and short codes, but not long web links or most ticket codes. For those, use Method 1 or 2.
Codes shown in a complication or widget are snapshots that watchOS refreshes on its own schedule. After editing a code, tap the complication to open the app, which always shows the current one.
Will a scanner read the code from a watch?

The screen is small, though, and scanners differ, so it is not guaranteed at every gate or till.
