Back up your Spreek progress or sync it with iCloud

Spreek offers two ways to carry learning progress between devices: a file you export and restore, and optional iCloud sync. Both keep learning records separate from private media. Neither transfers your Gemini key or scanned photographs.

Export a copy to Files

1. Open Settings → Data & privacy → Export progress.
2. Save the .spreekprogress file somewhere you control.
3. Keep a dated copy before replacing a phone or restoring another archive.

The archive includes vocabulary, sources, review history, session transcripts, write-ups and learner preferences. Treat it as personal data when choosing a folder or sharing destination. An export is a snapshot; it does not update itself after later study.

Restore on another device

1. Export any existing progress on the destination device first.
2. Choose Restore progress in Data & privacy and select the archive, or open the progress file from Files.
3. Read the confirmation carefully: restoration replaces local learning data and preferences.
4. Set up your Gemini key separately and check your vocabulary after the restore.

Cards keep their source information, but a photograph that was not transferred cannot be opened. This does not mean the vocabulary failed to restore. Progress files deliberately exclude those photos and audio files.

Enable ongoing iCloud sync

Sign in to iCloud in iPhone Settings, then turn on Sync with iCloud inside Spreek → Settings → Data & privacy on the devices you want to use. The status below the switch shows progress or an account/network problem. Learning data uses the app’s private iCloud database, without a Spreek login.

Turning the switch off stops future app sync; it does not erase existing iCloud records. Manage stored app data in your iCloud settings. Keep an independent export before major changes: sync follows changes between devices, whereas an export preserves a particular point in time.
