Your Dutch words. In a real conversation.
Learn Dutch from your own words
Your handwritten vocabulary, the book on your desk, a phrase you want to remember. Spreek turns them into Dutch practice: cards with the grammar attached, reviews that plan themselves, and a tutor that works your words into the conversation. The write-up brings what you said back into your next review.

Dutch you can actually use
Your material
Start with the words in front of you
Photograph handwritten notes or book pages, import photos, or paste Dutch text. Add several pages in a batch and adjust the area to read. Choose which words to learn and which you already know, then keep them together in Your vocabulary. Photo reading uses Gemini with your key and consent.
The whole word
The article is part of the vocabulary
De or het, the plural, the diminutive, past forms and hebben or zijn. Dictionary-backed cards carry the details that make a word usable, including separable verbs and the sentence where you met it. The Dutch dictionary and available pronunciation recordings come with the app.
Conversation
Give your new words something to say
Choose Practice your vocabulary or Free talk. Hold to talk, slide up to keep recording, or type your answer. The tutor works your selected words into the conversation. Turn on Correct my mistakes for written explanations as you go, while the tutor’s voice keeps the conversation moving.
The write-up
A conversation that feeds your next review
See which words you produced, which needed a fix, which you understood and which never came up. Read the mistakes worth a look, revisit the conversation and add new words from the chat. Session outcomes feed the same review schedule as your cards.
Room for your way of learning

- Offline review. Your saved cards, review schedule, Dutch dictionary and bundled word recordings work without a connection.
- Your vocabulary, organised. Search and filter your words, rename pages, merge collections and practise vocabulary from a particular page or pack.
- Progress you can take with you. Export a progress file to Files, restore it on another device, or enable optional iCloud sync in Data & privacy.
- A pace that suits you. Re-run the level check, slow the tutor voice, choose card autoplay and set an optional daily nudge.
- No streaks to protect. Come back to your words whenever you can. There are no lives, leagues or lost streaks.
Free app. Your own Gemini key.
Spreek has no subscription, credit packs or Spreek account. Photo reading and AI conversations run directly between your iPhone and Google under your own Gemini API key. Google’s model availability, quotas and any usage charges apply. Start with the key setup guide.
Your key stays in the iPhone Keychain. Pages, speech, typed turns and relevant vocabulary are sent to Google when those features need them, after you agree. Learning data stays on your device unless you enable iCloud sync or export it. Scanned photographs are excluded from progress sync and exports. Read the privacy policy and terms for the details.

FAQ
Which language does Spreek teach?
Dutch, with an English interface. Dutch vocabulary and pronunciation recordings are bundled with the app. There is no language-pack download or language picker to configure.
Do I need my own book?
No. Use handwritten notes, photos, pasted text, vocabulary banks or community packs. You can also start Free talk without scanning anything. See how to add vocabulary.
What does it cost?
Spreek is free, with no in-app purchases. Gemini requests use your Google project, so any AI charges are paid directly to Google. The cost depends on models, audio and usage; a fixed session price is not guaranteed. The Gemini guide explains billing and spending controls.
What works offline?
Saved vocabulary, reviews, the bundled Dutch dictionary and available word recordings. Photo reading, tutor conversations and uncached AI speech need a connection and your Gemini key. iCloud sync and opening remote packs also need a connection.
Can I practise without speaking out loud?
Yes. Type your answers during the conversation. You can switch back to talking when you are ready; typed conversations still use Gemini.
Does it correct every mistake?
With Correct my mistakes off, the tutor works a natural form into its reply. Turn it on for written corrections during the conversation. The end-of-session write-up highlights mistakes too. AI transcriptions and corrections can be wrong, so check anything that seems doubtful.
Does my photo leave the phone?
Yes. When you ask Spreek to read a photographed or imported page, it is sent directly to Gemini under your key. A local copy lets you revisit where you met a word. You can delete saved page photos in Settings → Data & privacy without deleting your vocabulary.
Can I move my progress to another iPhone?
Yes. Use Export progress and Restore progress in Settings → Data & privacy, or enable Sync with iCloud. Restoring replaces the destination device’s learning data after confirmation. Photos and API keys are not included. See the backup and sync guide.
Where do the dictionary and recordings come from?
The dictionary is derived from Wiktionary, with attribution in the app. Bundled Dutch recordings carry their speaker and licence credits. Dictionary recordings are distinct from the AI-generated tutor voice.
