Turn Dutch notes and page photos into vocabulary cards

A useful vocabulary card needs more than a translation. Keep the Dutch word, its article or verb forms, and a sentence that reminds you where you met it. Start with one clear photo and a small set of words you want to use.

Prepare a readable page

Lay the page flat, use even light and keep the writing sharp. Crop out unrelated text and neighbouring pages. Handwriting is easier to read when words have clear spaces. If the material is already digital, paste the text instead of photographing a screen.

Add the page in Spreek

1. In Spreek, tap Add words. Photograph a page, import a photo, or choose Paste text instead.
2. For photos, connect your Gemini key and agree to Google processing. The selected image is sent to Gemini to be read.
3. Add another page if needed. In the batch view, use Adjust area to focus the reading area and retry a page that was not read correctly.
4. Choose where the found words should be added: a new page or an existing collection.
5. Review the results. Choose Learn, Skip or Know it for each word, then add your selection to the deck.

Check the result before collecting everything

AI page reading can confuse handwriting or choose the wrong word. Compare unexpected results with the original page. Some forms resolve to their dictionary headword, so a past-tense form may appear under its infinitive. Words that cannot be matched are shown rather than silently becoming complete dictionary cards.

Use the word-list mode for a deliberate vocabulary list. For continuous prose, concentrate on words that matter to the sentence. A manageable selection gives you room to review and use them; a large import is not a learning session by itself.

Keep the source useful

Name the collection after the chapter, class or topic. Word cards can retain their source sentence and let you revisit the saved page. Page photographs stay outside progress exports and iCloud sync, so transferred cards may have source information without the original photo.
